Welcome to The Walk Children Center, located near the Hilton Dumpsite in Nakuru, Kenya. Established in April 2005 by Alex Maina Muhoro and Patricia, our non-profit organization is dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children through education, nourishment, and empowerment.
Since our inception, we’ve served over 6000 children, aged four to 14, with the unwavering support of donors, volunteers, and the community. Through the transformative power of education and nourishment, we strive to instill hope, resilience, and a belief in the possibility of a brighter future.
Our dedicated team of teachers, staff, and volunteers work tirelessly to create a safe and supportive environment where children can flourish academically, emotionally, and socially. We are committed to fostering a sense of belonging, empowerment, and opportunity for every child we serve.
Join us in rewriting the narrative of poverty and empowering the next generation. Together, we’re changing lives for the better.
In his youthful days, Alex Maina carried a profound burden for the children he passed by on his way to work as a newly employed teacher. Their struggles near the Hilton dumpsite resonated deeply with him, sparking a fervent desire to take action. Driven by compassion and conviction, Alex made the bold decision to leave his teaching job and mobilize resources to support these vulnerable children.
With unwavering determination, Alex founded The Walk Academy to provide essential assistance to the children living near the Hilton dumpsite. Initially focusing on providing food, the academy quickly evolved to address the broader needs of the community. Through Alex’s tireless efforts, partnerships were formed, and resources were gathered to offer free education to those in need.
Since its inception, The Walk Academy has grown exponentially, becoming a beacon of hope for thousands of children in Nakuru. Over 6000 kids have benefited from our programs, with many already pursuing careers, attending universities, or excelling in high school. Alex’s initial burden for these children has blossomed into a lasting legacy of transformation, inspiring generations to break free from the cycle of poverty and pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.
